James T. Allred In the past 29 years Jim Allred has been extremely involved in working to solve complex municipal sewage, commercial, marine, and industrial wastewater treatment problems. To date, Jim has personally designed, built, and supervised plant operations on over 350 wastewater treatment systems now installed in 27 U.S. states and 7 foreign countries. At least 30 of these projects have been located in the state of Alaska. Other applications required extensive research and development (R&D) programs in order to complete. Jim has managed 10 industrial R&D biological projects including suspended growth, fixed film systems (RBC), filtration, and physical chemical processes. The majority of the biological projects, however, have been based upon adaptation and use of the Sequencing Batch Reaction processes (SBR). These include both the "Isolated Complete Mix" version as well as continuously loaded "Multiple Reactive Condition" (MRC) version for advanced nutrient removal. Jim's wastewater process design and in-field operation experience is utilized by Operator Certification Training, Inc. (OCT) as a certified C.E.U. technical instructor teaching wastewater microbiology, wastewater process mathematics, multiple principles of mechanical treatment, plant operation, and process trouble-shooting. In 1993 Jim wrote and published an operator's workshop manual in microbiology. That publication is now distributed by OCT to wastewater treatment plant operators across the United States. Jim has been extensively involved in the use and adaptation of cultured bacteria (bioaugmentation) which has proven to have many benefits in the successful treatment of contaminated soils or other organic wastes which have no or very little naturally occurring microorganism life. This includes toxic wastes, sterile fatty proteins, concentrated CBOD strength dissolved sugars, complex hydrocarbon structures and extremely concentrated organics such as is associated with Hospital wastewater applications. Recently, Jim's experience in this field resulted in the completion of a very innovative Fast Rate - High Flow Rate - Ethanol SBR pre-treatment facility. Jim is president and senior process design engineer for Advanced Treatment Systems, Inc. (ATS) and Environmental Marine Services, Inc. (EMS), both located in Milwaukie, Oregon. Jim currently holds a supervisory grade wastewater operators certification in the states of Alaska and Oregon. EMS is one of the largest suppliers of onboard marine environmental wastewater treatment processing equipment on the West Coast (USA) including British Columbia and Alaska. In the past, Jim has served as senior design engineer and president of Bio-Pure, Inc., president of Operation Services America Inc., vice president of operations for Aqua-Tech International, Inc., president of Clark County Disposal Industries, and general operations manager for Culligan Water Conditioning of Hillsboro, Oregon. A few projects in active development include: oil field and mining camp projects in Alaska, heavy metal removal facilities in U.S.A, olive oil wastewater treatment facilities in Mexico, sub-division projects in Hawaii and other U.S. states, hotel resort complexes throughout the South Pacific and hospital/clinic facilities in the Caribbean. |
